National Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, beginning September 9, 2012, is celebrated annually with special events and ceremonies earmarked to honor the tens of thousands of professionals who make a tremendous difference each day in the lives of millions of individuals with disabilities.

CLASS Welcomes New Board of Directors Member, Ann Elliott

CLASS's 16-member volunteer Board of Directors, representing the organization's four-county service area, establishes values and policies, oversees provision of services, and shapes the future of the organization. CLASS is pleased to announce the addition of Ann Elliott, of Pittsburg, as the newest member of the CLASS Board of Directors. Elliott obtained her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Pittsburg State University, and has since held several positions for not- for-profit organizations in the Pittsburg area throughout the past 11 years.

Amy Root, RN, BSN Obtains CDDN Certification

CLASS Health Service Coordinator Amy Root, RN, BSN, has obtained certification as Certified Developmental Disabilities Nurse (CDDN). Root is one of only four individuals in the State of Kansas who have passed the boards and are currently maintaining the CDDN certification. "The CDDN certification demonstrates Amy's experience, competence, and proficiency beyond that required for standard nursing licensure," said Jan Bolin, CLASS President/CEO. "The CDDN is the only certification program for registered nurses specializing in the field of developmental disabilities and we are fortunate to have Amy as a resource at CLASS."

CLASS Hires New Employment Coordinator

CLASS welcomes Nick Holz as the new Employment Coordinator for Crawford and Cherokee Counties. As Employment Coordinator, Holz is responsible for procuring employment opportunities for individual community placements and the development of on-site work crews in integrated community work sites. As an area community disability service provider, CLASS is committed to reducing economic, social, and psychological dependence of those individuals being served, through enhancement of their independent living skills and vocational productivity to the furthest extent possible.

CLASS' Cherokee County Service Center Ribbon Cutting and Open House, Accessible to the Public


CLASS is pleased to announce the opening of a new Cherokee County Service Center, serving as the base of service operations for services in Cherokee County including Employment Readiness and Development and Life Enhancement Skills services. The growth and expansion of CLASS services in Cherokee County precipitated the addition of a facility to meet client and staff needs.
